Browsing the blog world I happened upon this blog by a believer turned atheist. He was going to become a serious god-follower and decided to read the bible. Half way through his second reading he started to smell a rat... This is part 2, but it's worth going back to read part 1, as well.

Thanks for this link, Simon, I found Chris to be very informative. I'm waiting for the next two parts.
Me too. He seems to know what he's talking about, unlike me.
lol
I feel very sorry for this guy, he was clearly surrounded by some very narrow-minded people who held to some very intransigent dogmas. So much so, it seems, that it predisposed him to seeing sinister meanings in fairly innocuous details of the Gospels...
Leaving aside Atwills crazy ideas, can anyone explain to me why, if they wanted to conspire to invent something, the disciples of the historical Jesus did no make more of an effort to ensure that their witness statements did not appear to contradict each other?
The Bible may be full of apparent contradictions; which are most easily "spotted" by those that wish to see them, but then..."There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death". (Proverbs 14:12).
Martin, can you provide me with evidence for the "historical" Jesus?
As usual, you are using the bible to justify your belief in the bible.
