WIN! WIN! WIN!

Life, the Universe and Everything is proud to announce it is to hold a competition for all you smart blog readers out there. The prize? £1 MILLION!

Yes, all you have to do is read the following statement and prove it incorrect and I will cough up a million!

Mathematically, God is as likely to exist as goblins and faries.

If you can prove to me that God is more likely to exist than goblins or faires, you win! Yes, it's as simple as that!

You don't even have to be the first. Nope - I'll pay out to ALL! Jesus only managed a few fish and some bread. I'm going to deal out a million big ones to each and every one of you!

Considering there's over 2 billion Christians on this planet, and most won't even entertain the idea their God is as likely as creatures from kids fairytales, this should be the easiest million you've ever made!

This competion starts right now so get thinking!

Rules
1. No purchase is required to take part in this competion.
2. Whether I agree with a logical conclusion which may be deemed to prove me incorrect is entirely arbitrary and judgement lies solely in my mysterious whim.
3. Life, the Universe & Everything reserves the right to disqualify participants in the contest at any time should their actions or general behavior, in the sole discretion of Life, the Universe & Everything, be determined to violate the contest rules or impede or obstruct the contest in any way.
4. It is the responsibility of the entrant to supply us with correct contact details. In the event that we are too incompitent to contact the winner using the details supplied, we reserve the right to forget the whole idea.
5. Entries must be submitted before the end of Eternity or before the Earth is sucked, spiralling, into the dying Sun, as it turns into a red giant and engulfs half the solar system, whichever is sooner.

Please provide definitions for:

1. God
2. Goblins
3. Faries (or Fairies)

OED definitions:

God

1 (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and supreme ruler of the universe. 2 (god) a superhuman being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature and human fortunes.

goblin

a mischievous, ugly, dwarf-like creature of folklore.

fairy

(pl. fairies) 1 a small imaginary being of human form that has magical powers.

Proof: by definition, faries are imaginary. Therefore probablility of existance equals zero. The definition of "God" does not imply "imaginary" therefore probablility of existence is greater than zero. Hence God is more likely to exist than faries. QED.

Million pounds, please.

Another proof: "God" is not defined as a mathematical entity (by which, I mean one that can be defined via the formal systems layed down in Russell and Whitehead's "Pricipia Mathematica" and extrapolated by the Bourbaki school: universally considered amongst mathematicians to be the most precise way to define mathematical entities). Neither are goblins and faries. Therefore the mathematical validity of the statement "God is as likely to exist as goblins and faries" is none. Hence "Mathematically, God is as likely to exist as goblins and faries" is false. QED

Can I have two million for two proofs?

You really do like to mouth off about things you know very little about, don't you?

Jonathan, I asked you to prove God is more likely to exist than goblins or fairies - not that the statement had a validity of none.

Just because the OED defines something as imaginary, doesn't mean it has any less chance of existing simply because the OED doesn't define a god as imaginary.

That would only prove the statement "The OED considers fairies to be imaginary."

The OED doesn't say whether it considers god to be imaginary, so we can't judge either way.

But I'm talking about the mathematical chances.

For example, Darwin predicted the existence and characteristics of certain species that were not known to exist at the time, which have since been discovered to exist - he did this by creating a probability based on the evidence he had seen.

So, what is your probability that god, fairies or goblins exist and what evidence do you base this on?

By the way, I'm pretty sure I've never directed an insulting comment at you or st personally, yet recently you comments have degenerated into snide personal remarks - you're like a pair of sulky children.

Is this how Jesus teaches you to behave?

Please then provide definitions that can be used in a proof that the statement is incorrect, if indeed you are unhappy with the OED definitions.

It is essentially impossible to provide a proof if the terms are not defined in an acceptable way to you.

Simon said...

But then it would be so easy to load the definitions in my favour.

Let's just say dictionary definitions which describe something as imaginary are not evidence for the existence or more likely existence of god.

I'm sure the OED are not going to risk offending anyone by defining gods as imaginary.

Are you kidding me or are you kidding me???

I have it!!!

'cause, like, god?

God?

You know, God?

He can like make a rock too heavy for him to like lift and stuff? and like weight is a math measurement so like if he can do that he totally exists!!!

so, like, do I win? If I do, what do I get 1 million pounds of?

ROFL, Simon, I love this post. I DO believe in God, but this isn't the least bit offensive.

Scribe~hopefully you win one million pounds of EFG degenerator LMAO!

(enter hippie)

God is love and we all know love exists... :)

(anyone nauseous yet?)

scribe said...

Prove it with equations, lccb!!!

Do itttttttttttt

Simon said...

Yes, you win, scribe! Yeah, but, no, actually.

What do you mean "it's not offensive" you bich!

God isn't love! For fucks sake, love is love, and that's a load of vague, non-descriptive, generalisation, bullshizer, too...

Goblins do exist. The Lord of the Rings films are positively heaving with them. Therefore, God is LESS likely to exist that goblins and fairies.
Please donate my million pounds to the James Randi Educational Foundation.

:D

erm, you got it the wrong way round, mate... you got to prove he's more likely to exist...

lccb144 said...

God exists because I exist... and most guys thank God for that. (I'm JUST KIDDING!!!!)

DaBich said...

Simon, that's MS. Bich to you, dude :P

lccb~you tell 'em girl LOL

scribe said...

thank GOD!!!

Simon said...

and goblins exist because i exist... and most fairies thank God for that!

so that makes them equally existable.

Sorry, I have just re read the post and discovered that I had only read the first part of the statement:

...all you have to do is read the following statement and prove it incorrect and I will cough up a million!

Mathematically, God is as likely to exist as goblins and faries.

All I was trying to do was to disprove it.
I have also just realised that I am taking this way too seriously. I'm off to think about something real instead.

Simon said...

yes, my post was slightly misleading. still, god gets away with it...

PostPunkUnkle said...

And God gets away with it because?

Oh yeah.... he wrote the book.

that explains all the inconsistencies and pettiness.

Yup...we gotta get even with you guys somehow ;)

You can keep your million bucks. I don't need it. (And my answer wouldn't qualify anyway.) But I think you'll seriously enjoy my essay...

LET'S STOP TRIVIALIZING GOD, THE UNIVERSE,
AND OUR ROLE IN EVOLUTION!

Inspired by the recent "Evolution vs. Intelligent Design" debate, I suggest how people of all religious traditions can work together with those of no religious tradition for the good of the entire body of life. This essay offers common ground for atheists, theists, religious non-theists, pantheists, etc.

Here's a printable PDF, including Q&A section: http://www.thegreatstory.org/trivializing.pdf

It can also be found accompanied by visually stunning, sensual/spiritual artwork here:
